Procedure

  1. Prepare the Ingredients
    • Mince the garlic and finely chop the onion.
    • Slice the hotdogs into small, bite-sized pieces.
    • Drain the mushrooms.
    • Grate Parmesan cheese if not pre-grated.
  2. Cook the Pasta
    • In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add a generous amount of salt.
    • Add 500 grams of pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
    • Drain the pasta and set aside, reserving a small amount of pasta water in case you need to adjust the sauce consistency later.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics
    • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of canola oil over medium heat.
    • Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Cook the Ground Beef
    • Add 250 grams of ground beef to the skillet with the garlic and onion.
    • Cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up into smaller pieces as it cooks. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste, if desired.
  5. Add the Hotdogs and Mushrooms
    • Add the sliced hotdogs and drained mushrooms to the skillet.
    • Stir and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the hotdogs to lightly brown.
  6. Add the Spaghetti Sauce
    • Pour in 700 grams of Filipino-style spaghetti sauce and stir well to combine.
    • Lower the heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
    • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small amount of reserved pasta water to adjust the consistency.
  7. Combine the Pasta and Sauce
    • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce, and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
    • Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring gently, to ensure the pasta absorbs some of the sauce flavor.
  8. Serve
    • Divide the spaghetti into six servings and top each with 2 teaspoons of Parmesan cheese.
    • Optionally, garnish with additional Parmesan or fresh herbs like parsley.
